Belton baseball loses 5-4 to Keller, 12-3 to Georgetown at tournament
GEORGETOWN - The Belton Tigers saw their four-game winning streak end Friday with a pair of losses at the Georgetown Invitational to Keller and the host school.

Belton (6-4) - which lost 5-4 to Keller and 12-3 to Georgetown in a game called after five innings because of time limit - concludes tournament play at 10 a.m. today against Abilene in Cedar Park.

Tigers send four to Super Centex Victory Bowl
“It’s obviously an honor when you are chosen to do something like this," Belton Athletic Director and Head football Coach Rodney Southern modestly commented about his selection as head coach for the Red team in the second annual Fellowship of Christian Athletes Super Centex Victory Bowl to be played June 12 at Baylor’s Floyd Casey Stadium.         Details . .

A three-year standout defender on the Belton Tiger soccer team will take his game to Howard Payne University.

Senior Christian Marbach, three years varsity letterman and second-year as team captain, signed a national letter of intent and accepted a scholarhip offer to play for the Yellow Jackets next fall.

Tigers dominate power lifting meet
The Belton Tigers strong-armed their way to the championship at last Saturday’s powerlifting meet in Lake Belton Gym. The boys team posted a total score of 51 points, seven ahead of Waco Midway and more than doubling the total points scored by each of the other schools, Copperas Cove, Waco and Temple.

The Lady Tigers also gave a strong showing at the meet, garnering three 1st place finishes, a pair of 2nd places and one 5th place to take third overall in the girls division. They finished three points behind the winner, Waco Midway, and only two points behind second-place Copperas Cove.

Tigers win baseball opener
“It was a nail-biter but the kids got it done!" exclaimed second-year Tiger baseball head coach Eddie Cornblum after his team held on for a 5-4 victory over Stoney Point in the season opener.

The weather was cold in Round Rock Monday evening but junior pitcher Tyler Vail, District 12-5A’s Newcomer of the Year last season, was hot on the mound. He entered the game for the final four innings, relieving starter Justin Rhea, and turned in a brilliant performance.

Tigers golf finishes second at Greenbriar tournament
The BHS Tigers #1 golf team competed in the 19-team field of schools at the 2010 5A Boys Marvin Dameron Invitational at Midway last Saturday. Klein Oak won the championship in a tie-breaker playoff against Vista Ridge at the Twin Rivers course.

“We played pretty well the first day, but not so well on Saturday," head coach Jimmy Hellums commented. "Looks like we still have some things to get fixed before district."

Lady Tigers ended up tied in overtime
For Belton it was back-to-back overtime games that might have done them in with a tie that seemed like a loss for a program that has only lost one game in the past 70. The two toughest district games are back-to-back against Temple and Consolidated. When nobody can even tie you for year’s that is how far the program has come in the past decade.`         Details . .

Belton fifth, Temple ninth at Waco tourney
WACO - Temple's McKenzie Ralston finished in a tie for sixth and Belton's Jordan Sniggs and Courtney Cryer tied for 12th on Wednesday at the Midway Invitational at Cottonwood Creek Golf Course. The Lady Tigers finished fifth and the Lady Wildcats were ninth. Ralston shot an 84 and Sniggs and Cryer shot an 88.         Details . .
