Belton's Burt, Ellis finish 15th at state swimming

AUSTIN - Belton swimmers Kyle Burt and Jason Ellis finished seventh in their respective events Saturday in consolation races at the Class 5A University Interscholastic League State Swimming and Diving Meet at the University of Texas. 2/28/10


Tigers capture first swimming title

Belton athletics has its second district championship of the 2009-2010 school year --- The Tiger swimmers won their first ever District 12-5A Swimming and Diving Championship last Saturday at the Texas A&M University Student Recreation Center Natatorium. BHS adds this district title to the football championship collected earlier.

Belton swimmers Burt, Ellis advance to state meet

MANSFIELD - Belton's Kyle Burt and Jason Ellis recorded wins at Saturday's Class 5A Region III Meet at Mansfield ISD Natatorium and became the first Tigers to advance to the state swimming and diving meet since the program was restarted nine years ago.

Burt won the 100-yard freestyle and Ellis claimed gold in the 100 backstroke to earn the automatic berth to the state meet on Feb. 26-27 in Austin.

Temple, Belton swimmers face busy schedule at regional; Tigers favored in three events

Belton swimmers have a chance to make history today. To pull it off, they might need their top swims of the season - twice. The Tigers are favored in three swimming events and two Temple divers are the top seeds in the Class 5A Region III Meet at Mansfield ISD Natatorium. Preliminaries begin at 9 a.m. and finals start at 6 p.m. 2/13/10

Inspired Belton boys swim to District 12-5A title

COLLEGE STATION - The Belton boys swimming team proudly wore T-shirts that proclaimed "veni natavi vici."

Saturday afternoon at Texas A&M's Student Recreation Center Natatorium, the Tigers made that saying - and their dreams of a District 12-5A championship - a reality.

The Belton girls were second behind Consol by 101 points. Temple's boys team was fourth with 58 points and the Temple girls, the defending district champions, were third with 71.

Belton boys look to dethrone Consol at District 12-5A meet

COLLEGE STATION - The Belton boys swimming and diving team proved early on it had district championship potential.

Now that the Tigers' chance at the crown is finally here - preliminaries of the District 12-5A Meet begin at 6:30 tonight at Texas A&M's Student Recreation Center Natatorium - they're still as confident as ever that the title is within reach.

Belton swimmers second, third at local meet

It was a sold and productive final tune-up for the Belton Tiger Swimming and Diving Team at last Saturday’s Annual Wildcat Winter Classic Meet in Temple. Strong individual and relay performances helped the Tigers finish second and the Lady Tigers third in front of a fan-packed Hardin Swim Center. 1/29/10


Winter Classic productive for Temple, Belton swimming teams

The Temple and Belton swimming teams left Saturday's Wildcat Winter Classic with some much-needed answers and a few loose ends to tie up, as well. But all in all, it was a solid way to head into the District 12-5A meet in two weeks.

The Tigers got second-place finishes from senior Jason Ellis and junior Kyle Burt. Ellis was the runner-up in the 500 freestyle and Burt was second in the 100 butterfly. Also for Belton's boys, Austin Couillard was third in the 200 individual medley. Sophomore Clara Pappenfort had the Lady Tigers' best result, placing third in the 50 free.

BHS swim team setting records

The Belton High School swimmers ended 2009 on a positive note --- The Tigers had a strong showing at the Belton End of Year Invitational, setting two school records and recording 34 individual-best times. Nine teams, including district rivals and standout area squads, participated in the meet last Saturday. 1/07/10


Tigers set three school records at meet

The Belton Tiger Swimming Team traveled north last weekend to compete in the Mansfield Swim Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Tigers finished fifth and the Lady Tigers were 15th among the 24 teams entered in the meet. 1/06/10
